Aegon Trophy Update – Wednesday 21st June 2017

The big shocker of the fifth day at the Aegon Ilkley Trophy was top seed Oceane Dodin’s defeat to Zarina Diyas on court two. The Frenchwoman was beaten 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 by Kazahkstan’s Diyas.

19-year-old Taylor Fritz took the first centre court victory of the day, beating India’s Yuki Bharmbri 6-1, 6-7, 3-6.

In the men’s doubles, top seed Paes and Shamasdin beat Podlipnik-Castillo and Vasilevski in a two set match, 7-6, 6-2. Unfortunately it didn’t go as well for Brits Marcus Willis and Jay Clarke, who lost 3-6, 7-6, 8-10 to Australian pair Millman and Saville.

One of the biggest games of the tournament saw Britain’s Laura Robson take on Russia’s Anna Blinkova. The Olympic silver medallist got off to a rocky start, losing the first set 4-6. An excellent second set saw her bring it back, winning 7-6, and a fantastic effort saw her take the third set 6-1
