Update from finals day (25th June 2017)

Record breaking crowds have watched dozens of outstanding tennis matches at Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club over the last nine days at the annual Aegon Ilkley Trophy. Welcoming professional players from across the world keen to make the most of the brief grass court season this year’s event has seen more higher ranked players appear than ever before. Today’s finals were watched by a sell-out crowd in the emerging sunshine, with the men first to take to the court.

Marton Fucsovics (HUN) claims grass as his favourite surface and he looked to be enjoying his match against Australian Alex Bolt. Fucsovics took control early and dominated much of the game, ultimately taking the match 6-1 6-4. Fucsovics, waiting for his trophy to be awarded on court, was emotional as Tournament Director Charlie Maunder announced that he had also been awarded a wild card to Wimbledon.

The Women’s singles final began after a brief break and was a close run match, Aegon Surbiton Trophy champion Magdalena Rybarikova (SKV) managing to close down the match in straight sets, 7-5 7-6, beating Alison Van Uytvanck (BEL) for the first time.
